the year is 2056: an epidemic of organ failure has changed the way the medical industry interacts with and effects the world at large, making surgery trendy and medical professionals into stars alongside popular musicians. Jemma Simmons, a would-be epidemiologist just working as a GenTern to pay off her tuition, is loathe to put the glamorous image that many of her fellow doctors and nurses seem to aspire to above her actual desire to study the diseases troubling the world; Skye (just Skye), an opinionated and well-liked singer-dancer-celebrity, is trying to hide her recently-diagnosed and largely unknown blood disease from the public. When Skye’s mysterious condition lands her in the hospital, it’s Jemma who winds up being assigned to look in on her; Jemma’s honestly not expecting to be swept off her feet by a patient, even one so lovely, and Skye’s honestly not expecting her famous charm to work on her cute, clever almost-doctor, but she is and it does and they’re both happier for it.
